Legacies 유산
The Korean War is a tangible presence even today. Nearly six decades since the war began, it remains stalemated in an armistice agreement and 10 million people are still separated from loved ones because of the division of the Korean peninsula. The large and vibrant Korean American community owes its existence to thousands of Koreans who immigrated during the post-war years bringing with them the resilience and scars of war survivors. In less visible but equally important ways, the experience of war has also influenced the lives of the younger Korean Americans crossing time, space, and generations.
한국전쟁은 오늘날까지도 현실적인 존재감을 갖고 있다. 전쟁이 발발한지 60여년이 지난 지금까지도 휴전협정상태에 머무른 채 꼼짝하지 않고 있으며, 한반도의 분단으로 인해 천만여명의 사람들이 사랑하는 가족 및 친지와 헤어져 살고 있다. 전쟁생존자 특유의 상처와 탄력성을 함께 지닌 채 전후에 이민 온 수많은 한국사람들 덕분에 크고 활력에 넘치는 재미동포 사회는 오늘날 가능한 것이었다. 전쟁의 경험은 다소 눈에 보이지는 않을지라도 여전히 중요한 방식으로 시간과 공간, 그리고 세대를 넘어 재미동포 청년들의 삶에 영향을 미치고 있다.
